In 1985 a directive was issued to principals that teachers were to accompany their classes to the library.

10.11.1987 MEMORANDUM TO PRINCIPALS 87-281 'Release from face to face teaching.

1. REVISED FOR 1988. This policy is re-issued to guide principals in their implementation of the release from face to face teaching program. ...

3. THE RELEASE ENTITLEMENT

d) Members of the school executive engaged in full-time teaching are entitled to the same release as class teachers.

f) Class teachers are not entitled to additional release from face to face teaching whilst their class is being taught library, craft, music or other similar activities, by another teacher'

[This is the memo which Personnel hold and use as current]

In June 1988 the government announced that funds for budgetary priorities would be achieved through three staffing changes, one being that;

'Teachers will no longer be required to be present with their class on every occasion when the class is being taken for library and/or other activities (e.g. Craft) by another teacher (normally a specialist). The time thus saved (a maximum of one hour) will be used as part of a teacher’s face to face release’

13.7.1988 MEMORANDUM TO PRINCIPALS 88-192 Anticipated staffing return; Primary staffing information; Planning for 1989 ...

Asignificant change relates to the release entitlement. Each schedule shows an allocation of one hour per classroom teacher per week. The Release from Face to Face allocation of 1 hour per classroom teacher MUST be fully used for teacher RFF time before allocating RFF time in P/T and/or Library. The other hour will be taken during the period of staffing provided for library or part-time or both. The Principal will allocate Supplementary Staff (RFF, P/T, Library) which will cover each teacher's RFF entitlement. During the RFF sessions covered by P/T and/or Library the class teacher need not accompany the class.

A teacher's Release from Face to Face time MUST not exceed 2 hours. ...

NOTES ON USING THE SCHEDULES ... 4. Where a school is entitled to an allocation of 1.0 Part-time teacher, this teacher's RFF time is to be deducted from the P/T allocation. This position does not attract release from the RFF allocation. ...

SPECIFIC DETAILS RELATING TO THE COMPLETION OF THE PRIMARY STAFFING INFORMATION FORM ...
3 The release entitlement. Where a regular school has some student support classes, show the release entitlement separately. ... Where the school's release entitlement results in a full-time position (24 teachers) and thus accrues its own release (0.084), this should be included on the primary line.

Note: Does the RFF teacher (1.0 and more) still accue its own release? The current staffing schedule doesn't show this. When did this change?

[This is an example of organisational letters that were sent to principals; it is not a memo as such.]
