Federation has been negotiating the TL log of claims with DET. However the government is refusing to spend an additional cent on restoring or righting the situation in school libraries. The critical support class issue in primary schools remains unsolved, and is affecting new schools each year, to their shock and horror. Schools have begun boycotting the Premier's Reading Challenge, as the Premier who is so keen on publicity for supporting literacy, refuses to provide equity for students and teachers.

'All teacher-librarians are invited to consider boycotting the Premier's Reading Challenge until this issue is resolved. If you explain the issue to your staff, your community and the children you teach they would understand and support you. Special needs kids should not be put in a position where the existence of their classes in a school has a negative impact on the whole school. Those of us affected could sure use some solidarity right now! ' Adrienne Tunnicliffe, Beaumont Road Public School
